BREAKING: Beloved Chihuahua “Buggy” Tragically Passes After Unusual Accident
May 28, 2025
In an incident both heartbreaking and bizarre, a local family is mourning the loss of their cherished chihuahua, Buggy, after a tragic accident involving a teenager during a backyard gathering on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, 17-year-old Mackenzie Dunlap was attending a small barbecue at the Flores family residence when the incident occurred. Witnesses say Dunlap, unaware of Buggy’s presence beneath a lawn blanket, sat down abruptly, unknowingly crushing the 4-pound dog beneath her.
Buggy, a 9-year-old chihuahua known for her spunky personality and signature pink bow, was a beloved companion to 12-year-old Sofia Flores, who described her as “my best friend and my shadow.”
"She was always burrowing in weird spots. We just didn’t see her there," said Sofia’s mother, Marta Flores, visibly shaken. "It was no one’s fault. It just happened so fast."
Paramedics were called, but Buggy was declared dead on the scene.
Dunlap, reportedly devastated, was inconsolable after realizing what had occurred. “She didn’t mean to do it. She kept asking if we could fix her,” said a neighbor.
While no charges are being considered, the community is rallying around the Flores family. A memorial has been set up on the front lawn, where neighbors have left dog treats, flowers, and small plush animals in Buggy’s honor.
“She might have been tiny,” said Marta, “but she left a huge paw print on our hearts.”
The Flores family has asked for privacy but welcomes anyone who wants to light a candle or share a memory of Buggy at the memorial this week.
